Blooming Tea combines art and flavor that transforms your tea-drinking experience into something special. Imagine a beautiful, hand-tied bundle of dried tea leaves and edible flowers, carefully crafted to resemble a blooming flower. When steeped in hot water, the tea ball creates a unique blooming experience and releases lots of health benefits. As the tea blooms, it releases not only its pretty colors but also its aroma, filling the air with delightful floral and herbal notes. Watching the transformation is like watching nature’s magic right in your teapot! But blooming tea isn’t just about looks—it’s also about taste! The combination of white tea with edible flowers creates a harmonious blend that’s both refreshing and soothing. Each sip offers a mild flavor profile, with subtle earthy nuances. Brewing blooming tea is an invitation to slow down and embrace the ritual of tea-making. It encourages mindfulness as you take the time to watch the petals unfold and appreciate the beauty of each moment. Whether you’re enjoying it alone or sharing it with friends, blooming tea turns tea time into a memorable occasion! 🌸🍵
  • How do I prepare this tea?
You can brew Blooming Tea balls in either a mug or teapot (350-600ml). To make the most out of your Blooming Tea experience, you’d want to use one made of glass. Pour boiling water into your mug or teapot. Do this first so you can then gently add the tea ball when the water is just below boiling point. It takes around 3-4 minutes for the tea to start unfolding and another 1-2 minutes to fully bloom. Simply wait and enjoy watching it unfold. The taste will get stronger every minute, so after around 4 minutes you can give it a first try and adjust the brewing time to your liking. At the latest, when the flower reaches full bloom, your tea is ready! Please note: The first brew may have a strong flavor as it takes time for the tea to fully bloom. If you prefer a lighter taste, reduce the water temperature slightly and wait a bit longer until your desired taste. Each tea ball can be brewed up to 3 times. For this simply pour the hot water back into the mug or pot after you enjoyed your first batch; just make sure not to damage the flower. As an orientation, steep the 2nd pour for 3-5 minutes and the 3rd one for 5-10 minutes. Experiment with the taste by changing the water temperature and brewing time. Once you’ve fully enjoyed the taste of your tea, feel free to pour cold water over the flower to enjoy the view for another 2 days! Refresh the water daily. If you don’t have a glass mug, a wine glass will work too - however, don’t use boiling water in there. Pour the tea and flower into your wine glass after brewing is complete or try a cold brew by keeping it in the fridge overnight.
  • What are the Health Benefits?
Enjoying Blooming Tea not only provides a delightful sensory experience but also supports your health in various beneficial ways! To create Bloomy I chose to use Tea Balls made of white tea. White tea is known for its various health benefits including: Packed with Antioxidants: White tea is rich in polyphenols, particularly catechins like epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). These compounds have been shown to neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. In fact, due to its low processing in comparison to f.e. green tea, white tea has the highest amounts of antioxidants of all true teas! Low Caffeine Content: White tea typically contains lower levels of caffeine (about 15-30 mg per cup) compared to green or black teas. This makes it an ideal choice for evening consumption, allowing you to enjoy a comforting beverage without affecting your sleep. Promotes Skin Health: The antioxidants in white tea, specifically flavonoids, can enhance skin health by improving hydration and elasticity. Research suggests that these compounds may help protect the skin from UV damage and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Supports Heart Health: Studies have indicated that white tea can help lower LDL cholesterol levels and improve endothelial function, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The flavonoids in white tea may also improve blood vessel function and circulation. Aids Digestion: White tea has been found to have a soothing effect on the digestive system. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort and promote healthy digestion.
  • How is Blooming Tea crafted?
Each Blooming Tea is handmade by artisans in selected areas in Eastern China. Fresh tea leaves – mostly green or white, are first moistened and then made flat. Using a food-safe piece of thread, the tea leaves are then carefully sewn around one or more dried flowers; wrapping them in a round ball shape. The craftsman then sometimes adds flavour to the blossom before finishing the process by “baking” the tea balls many times to completely dry them. Hiding the flowers within the tea leaves not only provides you with a mesmerizing visual experience, but also helps to preserve the flavours, beauty and benefits of the flowers and the tea leaves. As this process is fully handmade, there are not two identical examples of Blooming Tea out there and every single tea ball you receive will be completely unique!
  • What's the History of Blooming Tea?
The origins of flowering teas are not entirely clear, although they are believed to date back around the 10th century to the Yunnan province of China – where still most of today’s Blooming Tea production can be found. The tradition of shaping and displaying flowers in tea was prominent in the royal courts of China. But instead of drinking, they were mainly displayed to portray a sign of wealth and status. However, the Blooming Tea we know today – such as the one used to create Bloomy, is believed to be a much more modern creation, invented around 1990 by a woman from Fujian, a city in south-eastern China. The woman known by the name of Yun Xue Tong wanted to increase the Sales of both – her flower teas and also her green teas. After many trials and errors, she created the beautiful idea of Blooming Tea that also Bloomy is made of! This impressive creation not only helped her increase her sales but also led to a boom in the tea industry and created jobs for many artisans and tea masters in China.
